Glen Dean led the Utes with 16 points on 5-10 shooting, including 4-9 from the three. Jarred DuBois added 13 points and four rebounds. Renan Lenz and Dallin Bachynski played well coming off the bench, scoring a combined 19 points and grabbing a combined 10 rebounds.
"I think we played really well for three-fourths of the game, but we need to learn how to close," Glen Dean said after the game. "Last year we had to learn how to lose and just try to be in every game. This year we need to learn how to win. With some upper-classmen, we need to pick up some of our leadership and close out games when they are close like that."Freshman Jordan Loveridge was limited with foul trouble, adding four points and three assists in just 18 minutes of play before fouling out. He led the Utes in scoring coming into the game with 18 points in the season opener.
What hurt the Utes is Sacramento State's three point shot as they hit 10-23 from beyond the arc. The Utes had a statistical advantage in nearly every other category, grabbing the same amount of rebounds, leading in assists, blocks, field goal percentage, and steals.
The (3-0) Utah Women's Basketball team beat Michigan 59-40 a couple hours earlier at the Huntsman Center in a Utah Basketball double header. They opened the game with a 15-0 lead and never looked back.
Next, the Utes face Idaho State at the Huntsman Center on Wednesday, November 21st at 7 p.m. in the Utah Thanksgiving Tournament. Students get a free Basketball MUSS shirt for the season and get in free with their U-Card.
