Utah Shuts Out Northern Colorado in Opener, 41-0

Utah was dominant in their season opener, shutting out Northern Colorado 41-0.  It wasn't Pac-12 competition, but the Utes left fans satisfied and optimistic with the return of Jordan Wynn and a dominant defense that didn't allow Northern Colorado to cross midfield.

After a shaky start and an interception, Jordan Wynn bounced back and led the team with 200 passing yards and two touchdowns, completing 70 percent of his passes.  His 200 yards were the most a Utah player has had since October 1, 2011 when Wynn threw for 239 yards vs. BYU.

John White picked up right where he left off with a 119 yard rushing performance on 24 carries with a touchdown.  Jarrell Oliver and Kelvin York also received touches, rushing for a combined 39 yards collectively.

Perhaps the most excited rushing performance came from true freshman quarterback Travis Wilson.  On his first play of his career he electrified The MUSS by hurdling a defender, two plays later he scored a rushing touchdown.  Wilson had two rushing touchdowns from the quarterback position, also throwing for 21 yards on two passing attempts.

Wynn hit nine different receivers with TE Jake Murphy leading the team on 78 yards receiving with two touchdowns.  Dres Anderson added 43 yards on four receptions.  Seven other receivers had receptions for over 10 yards.

The Utes' defense was dominant against the over-matched Golden Bears, never allowing them to cross midfield. They held Northern Colorado to 79 yards passing and 35 yards rushing.  The Utes forced two turnovers, including DE Joe Kruger returning an interception for a touchdown.

Up next the Utes face a tougher opponent, heading north to play the Utah State Aggies in Logan on Friday, September 7th on ESPN2.
