This seem about right. It wouldn't have surprised me if Oregon had jumped ahead of USC just because of how dominant they were in the first half of their game. I agree with USC being #1 though because if you take into consideration their opponents, USC played a much better team.
ReplyDeleteThe Ducks took their foot off the gas in the 2nd quarter, if not, they could have scored 80+. I know it's a Sun Belt school but Arkansas State won 10 games last year.
DeleteI had USC over Oregon because the Trojans won last year in Eugene and look to be even better, but the Ducks should make things interesting on November 3rd.
I pretty much agree, other than I would move UCLA ahead of ASU and Stanford right now. The Cardinal were not that impressive in their win at home over an opponent of similar quality to the one that UCLA hammered on the road. I also am not that sold on ASU. I think their win was more a product of who they were playing versus their actual quality as a team this year.
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of variation in the rankings between those three schools. As you can see in the average ranking, they were all separated by 0.09 when we calculated it out. UCLA and ASU actually tied.
DeleteI think you're right on UCLA above ASU. UCLA's offense was dominant putting up 646 yards over a better opponent than ASU faced (D-1 vs D-2). As for Stanford, I we need another game too see if it was just "first game jitters" for their new QB. But in week one, he looked terrible.
Not to correct you, but Northern Arizona is not a Division 2 school. They are Division 1. They just come from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division 1-AA). Football Bowl Subdivision teams (formerly Division 1-A) cannot play Division 2 teams.
ReplyDeleteAh gotcha, my mistake I meant 1-AA or FCS
